It may involve removal of an entire or the diseased part of an organ and replacement with a transplant or an artificial part. With the advent of modern techniques like diagnostic imaging, blood typing, intubation, heart-lung machines, endoscopes, complications during or following an operation have minimized tremendously and several surgeries can now be performed on an outpatient basis.
