Who is an ideal candidate for Breast Lift?If you are a man or a woman with sagging, drooping breasts due to any of the above mentioned reasons, then you are an ideal candidate for Breast Lift. Best results of a Breast Lift surgery are achieved in small breasts. In large breasts, changes due to Breast Lift do not last too long. Pregnancy after a Breast Lift procedure can also reverse the results of Breast Lift as the skin of breast stretches during pregnancy. What does the procedure of Breast Lift involve?Operation for Breast Lift is usually performed under general anesthesia. In some cases your surgeon may decide to use local anesthesia and general sedation if only a small incision needs to be made. The incisions for the Breast Lift operation vary, depending on the extent of sagging of the breast and the amount of loose skin around it. The most widely used incision for Breast Lift operation is the 'anchor shaped' incision which follows the normal contours of the breasts. The excess skin will be removed, the nipple and areola will be moved higher and the overall contour of the breast will be reshaped and improved. Smaller degrees of breast sagging can be corrected by Breast Lift operation using a 'doughnut' shaped or concentric incision which is made around the areola and a doughnut shaped flap of skin is removed. Many a times Breast Augmentation is performed along with Breast Lift operation. In that case a breast implant is inserted either directly under the breast tissue or under the muscle of the chest wall. The surgery for Breast Lift will take about 2 - 3 hours and would require you to stay in the hospital for a a couple of days at the most. How to prepare pre-operatively before the Breast Lift operation?Your surgeon might ask you to have a mammogram done before the Breast Lift surgery. Follow your surgeon's guidelines regarding eating a nutritious and balanced diet, stop smoking at least 2 weeks before the Breast Lift surgery. Inform your surgeon and your anesthetist about all the prescription and non-prescription medications, including vitamin, mineral and herbal supplements that you take and follow their instructions carefully. Confirm from your surgeon whether you will be sent home on the same day of Breast Lift surgery. If so, then make arrangements for some one to drive you home and help you around the house for the next few days following the Breast Lift surgery. What is the recovery period like after the Breast Lift surgery? There will be some degree of swelling, bruising, soreness and discomfort in your breasts for the next couple of days after the Breast Lift surgery. This will gradually subside. You will be sent home either the same day or the next day if all goes well following Breast Lift surgery. You will be sent home wearing a surgical bra over a gauze dressing and your surgeon will prescribe you medication to relieve pain and swelling after Breast Lift surgery. The surgical bra will be replaced by a support bra in the next few days which you will be required to wear all the time (day and night) for about a month or so. You will be able to return to your daily activities in about 2 weeks time after the Breast Lift operation. There might be some degree of numbness around the nipple which will gradually fade away. Refrain from performing any strenuous activities like participating in sports or lifting heavy objects for about 6 weeks after the Breast Lift operation. It is normal to be able to resume you full daily routine in about 3 months after the Breast Lift operation. What is the outcome of Breast Lift operation? You will be very pleased with results of a Breast Lift if you have realistic expectations and have complete understanding of the procedure. Your surgeon will try his / her utmost to make the incisions such that the resulting scars are inconspicuous however, they are permanent. You have to remember that a Breast Lift will not keep your breasts firm forever. Loss of elasticity of the skin, breasts and other tissues of the body is a normal aging process which none of us is immune to. In the meantime enjoy your 'NEW' look and be happy and satisfied with your appearance. B . R . A . N . D . of Breast Lift
