Vaccinations are advised for anyone traveling to any country in Latin America, including El Salvador. Conditions do change, so see your local travel medicine clinic for up-to-date information on which vaccines are currently recommended.
Hepatitis A or B vaccines are recommended. If you are traveling in certain rural areas outside of San Salvador, there may be a risk of malaria or dengue fever from mosquitos.
To have the most benefit, see a health-care provider at least 4–6 weeks before your trip to allow time for your vaccines to take effect before your trip. Even if you have less than 4 weeks before you leave, you should still see a health-care provider who specializes in travel medicine.
'Natural' remedies such as acidophilus, taken to ward off indigestion, will decrease the effectiveness of vaccines.
